Let Krsna Pull You Away From Maya
Krsna helps us to the degree we have the intention, and make the effort, to improve. Certainly no problem of ours is too great for Him to solve. We just need to be willing to let Him solve it.
One of the offenses to the holy name is to maintain material attachments. The holy name gradually pulls us away from material life, but we may be reluctant to go along for the ride. We make the offense of maintaining material attachments when we jump out of the car.
This is the paradox of finding happiness. In the progress of devotional service, we eventually come to the stage of ruci, or taste. In this stage everything in Krsna consciousness is sweet. This taste is far sweeter than any material taste. This stage comes after we are free from most of our anarthas, or unwanted material desires and attachments.
Even though anarthas are unwanted, we often think the anarthas are the very things that will make us happy. The paradox is that the anarthas are preventing us from reaching the stage of ruci, the stage where we will actually be happy. It’s important for us to be aware of this and see how some of what we think will make us happy is preventing us from actually being happy.
Of course, the other part of the paradox is that the more we are concerned about our personal happiness, the more unhappy we are. Therefore, Prahlada Maharaj advises that if you want to be happy, don’t try. Because the more you try to be happy, the more unhappy you will become.
